At the age of 12 my dream came true when mother did all she could to have me accepted as a ‘Cirak’ (apprentice) to a Master Barber in my hometown of Karakocan South Eastern Turkey.
It was there under his guidance that I began to learn at first hand skills that are as old as the Ottoman Empire itself. Having served my time as a ‘Cirak’ I faced a true baptism fire by opening my own shop in my own town where I plied my trade to the most knowledgeable customer base in the world and I was a success!
I then moved to London where I opened a shop that let me develop and enhance my style so that it became a fusion of the art of the Traditional Turkish Barber alongside the demands of a new type of clientele.
However, I never once got the ‘Feel’ for London, I am a traditionalist by nature so I found myself looking for a place to live and work that was vibrant rather than hectic. A place that had history but wasn’t stuck in the past. A place where the people understand and value traditions of every kind……... as such Liverpool was the only destination for me.
